Sign up for Green Commute Week
May 13 – 19
Holland Hospital’s Cath. Lab team
The Holland/Zeeland Green Commute Week is now in its 11th year! The week-long event encourages members of the community to commute “green” at least twice within the week. So try walking, biking, riding the bus, or instead of driving alone, we encourage carpooling! NEW this year, we’ve also added telecommuting and driving a fully electric car! These personal actions have the ability to improve our air and strengthen our bodies!
This event is for everyone. Individuals and groups, we also have an employer commute challenge and a school competition!
Perks of Green Commute Week
Agricultural Cost Share
Spring has finally arrived and planting season is only a short time away. The MACC still has cost-share funding available for a number of agricultural best management practices (BMPs). Currently, there are funds available for farmers who wish to switch from conventional tillage to some method of reduced tillage or no-till. We also have funding available to help farmer’s plant cover crops and also a cost share available to apply gypsum to fields.
One of the BMPs we have funding available for is the construction of a water and sediment control basin or WASCOB as they are commonly referred to. WASCOBs are placed in areas of concentrated flow and are used to detain and slow the flow of water leaving agricultural fields. There are several WASCOBs in the Macatawa Watershed and we would like to see more installed. Technical assistance is available from MACC Agricultural Technician Rob Vink.
