Though we’re in the midst of the snow covered roadways and frigid temperatures, before we know it, orange cones and signs will be returning to our roadways as a new construction season approaches. The MACC has been busy planning for not just next year’s transportation projects, but all the way through 2023! As a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the MACC is tasked with developing and administering a four-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to manage the federal transportation funding that is allocated to our region. Approximately $6.5M of federal funding is available to be programmed for improvements over the next four years. Region stakeholders met in late 2018 to develop project selection criteria, and subsequently prioritize projects that were submitted in response to a call for projects issued in October. A total of 37 projects were reviewed and prioritized according to criteria such as traffic volume, pavement condition, safety improvement, regional benefit, connectivity, environmental justice, complete streets, and economic development. The MACC’s Policy Board approved a list of 25 recommended projects earlier this month, to put forward in the development of the TIP.
