Streambank and Two-Stage Channel Restorations Completed
The MACC recently completed work on two small grants from the Great Lakes Commission to restore streambanks and construct two-stage channels. We were able to restore 160 feet of streambank on private property in Holland Township along Noordeloos Creek (top photo). We were also able to construct 2,660 feet of two-stage channel at two locations. A 635 foot two-stage channel was constructed on private property in Zeeland Township on Dutchman’s Creek (bottom photo), and 2,025 feet of two-stage channel was constructed in the City of Zeeland on the Brower Drain. Combined, these projects will keep 2,059 tons of sediment out of Lake Macatawa over the next 10 years. The grants provided $99,000 toward these projects and there were additional local investments totaling $51,279. Local funds were provided by the ODC Network, the Ottawa County Water Resources Commissioner and the MACC.
