2025 Active Transportation Plan
The 2025 MACC Active Transportation Plan provides a comprehensive, data-driven roadmap to improve non-motorized infrastructure throughout the region. Building upon the 2014 Non-Motorized Plan, this updated strategy reflects community feedback, evolving mobility needs, and new priorities like equity, safety, and connectivity. It outlines current assets—including sidepaths, bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails—evaluating their condition and accessibility. Gaps and barriers in the network are identified and mapped, with a focus on linking residents to vital services such as schools, health centers, and employment hubs. The plan emphasizes multimodal transportation’s role in economic development, safety (with crash data from 2014–2023), and public health. A 1–6 sidepath rating system was implemented through grant-supported data collection, and design guidelines are proposed for various infrastructure types. Stakeholder engagement, including public meetings, pop-up events, and surveys, ensured diverse voices shaped the plan. Regional trail integration, high-risk corridor analysis, and crossing audits further inform safety improvements. Finally, the plan addresses project costs and outlines local, state, and federal funding strategies, noting recent construction costs and maintenance needs. Framed as a living document, it is designed to guide flexible, responsive investment in active transportation for years to come.
