MACC Area Fatalities Maps
In transportation planning, fatalities refer to the deaths that occur as a direct result of transportation-related crashes or incidents. This includes individuals who die from injuries sustained in motor vehicle collisions, pedestrian or cyclist crashes, transit accidents, or other transportation system events. Fatalities are a key measure of transportation safety performance, often used to assess the effectiveness of roadway design, traffic management, and safety programs. Planners analyze fatality data to identify high-risk locations, develop countermeasures, and support initiatives aimed at achieving goals such as “Vision Zero” or zero traffic deaths.
